Rick Ross Loses #1 Spot On Charts, Mike Jones Pushes 25K In First Week!!

After one of the most highly anticipated showdowns of the year went down last Wednesday (April 22) between Rick Ross and Asher Roth, the Billboard 200 has cooled down, with only two new rap releases from Mike Jones and Tech N9ne making it onto the charts.

While only dropping 4 spots from last week’s no. 1 spot, Rickey Ross took an expected hit this week. Falling 68% in sales, Deeper Than Rap sold 51,100 discs in his second week, bringing his total figures to 209, 200 according to Nielsen’s SoundScan.

Entering the charts at no. 12 is Houston rapper Mike Jones with his long delayed sophomore album, The Voice. The album, which follows up 2005’s Who Is Mike Jones?, was picked up by 24,800 fans in his debut week.

Suburban sensation Asher Roth is right behind Jones at no. 14 with Asleep In the Bread Aisle. The PA native’s stats fell 65% in his follow up week on the charts, moving 23,100 units. After two weeks Roth has an overall number of 88,600 albums sold.

Slipping 10 spots to number 20 this go-around is Yonkers rep Jadakiss. Fans of the Def Jam MC walked out of the stores with 20,100 more Last Kiss CDs this week, bringing Jada’s total tally to 230,200 after a month on the charts.

Debuting at no. 23 is indie rapper Tech N9ne with his latest album Sickology 101. The Midwestern artist, - who has been in the game for over a decade - sold 18,200 copies of his 8th disc.

Ten slots down is Flo Rida with his second album, R.O.O.T.S. The pop friendly rapper added 14,300 units to his grand total, which now stands at 137,000 after 5 weeks on the charts.

With a slew of indie releases that came out yesterday by the likes of Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul, Bubba Sparxxx, Little Brother rapper Big Pooh and a tribute to Ol’ Dirty Bastard, among others, it will be interesting to see who makes the charts next week.
